This privacy policy explains what information Baycast ("we", "us") collects when you visit baycast.us (the "Site"), how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Information you give us. If you email us, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you.

Guide listing submissions. If you submit a guide service through our List your guide service form, we store the details you enter on our web server so we can review them. Once we approve a listing, we publish the business name, captain name, phone number, website, home port, areas, trips, rates, and description in our directory. We keep your email private and use them only to confirm or update your listing. To change or remove a listing, email us at the address below.

Member accounts. If you create a Baycast account, we store your first name, email address, a securely hashed password, your home fishing area and your plan. Everything you add as a member (catches, photos, GPS positions, waypoints, trips and notes) is private to your account. We don't publish it, sell it or share it with other members. When you upload a photo we re-save it without its hidden metadata, including any location stored in the file. You can download your data or delete your account and all of its data from the Account page at any time.

Location. The members area only uses your device's location when you tap "Use my location" or "Show my location", and only to fill in a position you choose to save. You can type or tap a position instead.

Payments. Baycast Pro is billed by Stripe, Inc. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. Stripe tells us your subscription status, renewal date and a customer ID so we can turn Pro on or off. See Stripe's privacy policy.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider and any analytics tools we use may record standard log data, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, pages visited, and the date and time of your visit.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We and our partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to keep the Site working, understand how visitors use it, and show advertising.

Advertising and Google AdSense

We may use Google AdSense to display ads on the Site. In connection with this:

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site or other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.

Live data requests

To show live conditions, your browser requests data directly from public services such as NOAA, the National Weather Service, RainViewer, CARTO map tiles and Windy. These services receive your IP address and browser information as part of a normal web request and handle it under their own privacy policies. If you choose an area on the home page, we remember that choice in your browser's local storage; it is never sent to us.

Analytics

We may use analytics services, such as Google Analytics, to understand how visitors find and use the Site. These services collect information through cookies and similar technologies and report website trends without identifying individual visitors to us. You can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

We do not sell your personal information for money. We don't ask for sensitive information, and we don't knowingly collect it.

Your choices

Browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Blocking cookies may affect how some features work.
Personalized ads. Use the opt-out links in the advertising section above.
Consent. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland will be asked for consent before personalized advertising cookies are used, through a consent message on the Site.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising as defined by laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Children's privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

Our pages link to other websites, such as guide services, NOAA and Texas Parks and Wildlife. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

Data retention and security

We keep emails only as long as needed to respond and for our records. We use reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
